I really want to do this, I got a childrens old board book, i took off all the shiny pages.
I look at it and think, of what's next. Creativity is escaping me, please please nudge me somewhere, anywhere.

Re: inspiration
Fri, May 12, 2006 - 11:22 PMsometimes a theme is your jumping off point. if you were making a gift book for someone, you might think of a quality or aspect of that person that you focus on and look for images or objects that illustrate that... -

Re: inspiration
Sat, May 13, 2006 - 10:25 AMA theme can even be a very broad one, like colour. Play with tints and shades of a chosen colour, images and objects in that colour, along with maybe exploring the colour with its complementaries and/or neighbours on the colour wheel.
I love colour...

Re: inspiration
Sat, May 13, 2006 - 10:39 AMPick your favorite scripture and illustrate what it means to you.
Focus on some aspect of the divine and try to describe it via the book.
Pick some place you want to go to, or have been and make that your theme.

Re: inspiration
Sat, May 13, 2006 - 10:44 AMFor example, think of what you could do with:
"Behold, I set before you an open door, which no man can shut" Revelations 3:8
Or, "My dove in the clefts of the rock, In the hiding places of the mountainside, Let me see your face. Let me hear your voice; for your voice is sweet, and your face is lovely." Song of Solomon 2:14. Song of Solomon is full of beautiful imagery

Sat, May 13, 2006 - 12:03 PMCover the page with paint, scraps of paper, or gesso so that it is blank and you can begin fresh. Pick a color, a picture, a word, thought, theme, and then look for other things that are similar or oposite. -

Mon, May 15, 2006 - 6:19 PMwow, what great thoughts, Princess P... yeah those are great quotes - opening doors and entering have been the theme of the day for me.
i've been thinking of finding some little hinges. What can i do for a doorknob? ok I'm thinking... -

Re: inspiration
Mon, May 15, 2006 - 8:23 PMyou could use a drawer pull that looks like a doornob. you can get small hinges at the hardware or craft store.

Re: inspiration
Mon, May 29, 2006 - 12:01 PMI impressed a plate from around an old door knob in terra cotta. Once the terracotta dried and was fired I cast it in paper. It is flat enough to get the idea of a door and its symbology and can be put between the pages of a book (esp if you cut several pages away to allow it to close flat). If applying to the front of a book you you could actually add a vintage door knob.

Sun, September 9, 2007 - 2:20 AMOccaisionally I use the title of the book as the theme. I leave the title on the spine as is and go from there. -

Tue, September 11, 2007 - 6:16 PMI usually go by an image I have found and like-especially anything nature related. I had a restoration catalog, found some images of old tubs and made two different pages featuring the tubs. I'll post them here. I think you just to to have a big pile of stuff to work with.
