i recently purchased a wonderful magazine that caters to altered books. but as i was looking through the book; there was not one image of people of color.

i begin to wander around some of the websites and could not find anything. i found one image cd but it seem to mainly consist of pre slaver and post slavery. and of course the famous images of rosa parks and martin luther king.

but i am looking for something that is a little more modern that reprsent the people of color. i love the images of angels and cherubs and such but they have none that are of color.

can anybody help me out with this? i really do like the idea of altered books; but it would be nice to open a magazine and see a book or two with images that represent people of color.

i even looked through a rather informative book on the subject of altered books but there were no examples of images of people of color.

i even looked in the back of the magazine at the various product companies and i could not find one that said they also have clip art or images that represent people of various ethnicites?

can anybody tell me why and how i can find images that represent more of who i am?

thank you,

baby dragonfly

p.s. i want to make a altered book that consist of my soul and spirit and esscence. with beautiful images of brown people.

    www.morguefile.com/

    www.doverpublications.com/desig.../0111/

These are a few sites I have in my favourites.

The first is The African-American Migration Experience, which has a gallery of images.

Morguefile is a public-image reference archive - you can type in the types of photos you want, eg. African-American women, Hispanic children, etc.

The Dover Design Sampler is a treasure trove of copyright-free images. Sign up for their weekly email and you get all kinds of images for free.

Other than that, you can Google images, as well.

    Hope that helps.

I wonder if you might find some links or references from the Museum of the African Diaspora. (MoAD) I know I've seen greeting cards and the like that feature images of African Americans as cherubs ect. I'm totally niave when it comes to magazines like Jet and Ebony, but mightent they have ads in the back to things like this? And keep fighting the good fight. (You don't even have to consider it a fight, either.)
